Improbulus - Bookmarklets or Favelets for A Consuming Experience

A place to store bookmarklets or favelets Improbulus has created or adapted, which Blogger often messes up on publishing or republishing to her blog A Consuming Experience.

First, What are bookmarklets or favelets, and how to use them? - opens in a new window. (Alternatively, to use a bookmarklet, if it doesn't need any customisation e.g. the flag one, you can also just click its link.)

Plus, how to edit a bookmarklet.

1. Technorati tags - Magical Sheep bookmarklet for multiple word tags

Condensed Magical Sheep bookmarklet - which works even in Internet Explorer 6 (see this post).

To customise it - after saving this favelet to your computer you should edit it by just changing YOURNAME to your name e.g. Improbulus in my case (if you want a meblogging tag with your name), and YOURBLOGNAME to the name of your blog similarly (e.g. A Consuming Experience - no quote marks, but spaces are fine in both your name and the blog name). Otherwise, please delete YOURNAME, YOURBLOGNAME but take care NOT to accidentally amend the rest of the text particularly quotation marks or apostrophes, or the favelet won't work!

You don't need the following bookmarklet now as the above is shorter, but I've left it in for historical reasons:

    Technorati Magical Sheep Bookmarklet--Baaaaaaa!

(More on the Magical Sheep bookmarklet for multiple word tags and how to customise the bookmarklet to speed up the tagging process for your own blog.)

2. Haloscan for Blogger - find which Blogger post a comment or trackback relates to

    Find post bookmarklet

IMPORTANT: after saving this favelet to your computer you need to first edit it by changing YourBlogID to the ID of your Blogger blog before you can use this bookmarklet (how to find your Blog ID number.)

More on how to find which Blogger post a Haloscan comment or trackback relates to.

3. Flag Blogspot splogs which hide the navbar or flag - Magical Sheep bookmarklet

If you find a spam blog on the free Blogspot.com blog host and want to report it to Blogger, try the Magical Sheep Blogspot Navbar Restorer script for Firefox/Greasemonkey.

If that doesn't work because the splog is using some method of concealing the navbar or flag not yet picked up by that script, try this bookmarklet (it will work with Internet Explorer and Firefox but not Opera, and even pick up the Blog ID for you automatically - but if it doesn't just View Source for that splog to find its Blog ID first, search for "blogID=" without the quotes, and it's the number after the = sign; copy that number, without any quotes, and paste it into the popup and hit OK):

4. Shorten URLs for Twitter, emails etc

Copy a URL, click this favelet, paste in the URL and OK, and it'll take you to the is.gd webpage with a shortened version of the URL which you can then copy and paste into your tweet, your email etc.

    is.gd shorten URL bookmarklet

I produced this because is.gd's own bookmarklet only produces a short version of the URL for the webpage you're currently on - but often it's easier to rightclick a link, copy its shortcut and use my bookmarklet to get a compressed version of the URL, rather than having to visit the webpage first.
